Matadalan Ba Malu would like to congratulate Teresa Pereira on her acceptance into the 2014 MBM English Language Scholarship Program at RMIT English Worldwide, Melbourne. Teresa is the founding Director of Centru Feto Haburas Dezenvolvimento (CFHD) in Baucau, Timor Leste and the proud mother of three boys. Teresa established her organisation in 2011, opening her doors to vulnerable women in the Baucau district as both a refuge and a place for them to access opportunities to improve their lives. Teresa was inspired to open the centre after having grown tired of seeing women in her community being denied opportunities and them enduring discrimination and falling victims to violence. Through her work she hopes to change the mindset of her community by encouraging all to be more supportive and inclusive of women. Teresa is very excited to receive the Matadalan Ba Malu scholarship and hopes it will assist her to communicate better with the international community about the issues women face in Timor Leste. She also hopes it will aid her to further develop CFHD and Baucaus service provider network - Rede Referral. She sees English language skills as important to being competitive in grant applications, communicating effectively with stakeholders and hopes to share her improved language skills by developing English classes at her centre for the women she so passionately represents. Congratulations Mana Teresa, we hope this experience will contribute towards you reaching all your admirable ambitions. We are sure you will have many stories and new found skills to share with your wider community.
