Match Report - FNR 0 - 1 Big Grill - for all other reports go to super6s.co.uk FNR have become a difficult team to beat lately. Their captain Mal delved into the transfer market early in the season to snatch new singing Carl on a free and it seems to be paying dividends. He had a good game against leaders BIG GRILL; however his team were edged out 1-0 in a tight affair by a late goal from Grill marksman Anton. It was never going to be an easy game for Big Grill who were up against an FNR side that had won their previous two games, but when Anton forced a defensive error in the 33rd minute and slotted the ball past Dream Team keeper Steve (FNR) it was enough to grind out another win. Big Grill are also still unbeaten. FNR captain Mal tried his luck early on with a decent effort from a tight angle that flew just wide of Grill keeper Garner’s post before Steve was called into action to make the first of several good saves, keeping out Tom’s (Grill) attempt at the near post when he breached the FNR defence after a slick one-two with Anton. Anton worked hard throughout the game and was always a threat and made this week’s Dream Team as well, as the man of the match. Danny (Grill) saw his shot blocked by Lucas (FNR) and Grill captain Ross dragged a shot wide from distance before Tony (FNR) fired a good effort narrowly wide of Garner’s goal. Anton pulled a shot wide moments later when he went through before Mal let loose with another powerful effort at the other end that flashed past Garner’s far post. Big Grill defender Jay was called upon to snuff out Lucas’s shot on the stroke of half-time before the half-time whistle sounded to signal a first half stalemate. The longer the game went on the more FNR looked as though they may take points from the league leaders. They made life difficult for Grill. Their keeper Steve frustrated them with a couple of excellent second half saves! Anton had a big opportunity to break the deadlock early in the second half but put his attempt wide as he raced through one on one with Steve before he then had a shot blocked by Carl. Danny was then denied by Steve after he combined well with Anton, before Steve then made the save of the game when he got across to his left to somehow tip away Tom’s curling effort that was destined for the top corner. Big Grill finally got their break through when FNR failed to clear as Anton hounded their defence into an error and punished them with a crucial side footed finish, before he nearly doubled his team’s lead with a quick shot on the turn seconds later, but Steve kept it out with his trailing leg as he dived the other way! Paz (FNR) sliced wide (after some nice link up play between Gaz (fnr) and Mal) when he pushed up to help his teammates try to salvage a point, before Carl set Mal free in the final seconds of the match, but Garner was alert and advanced quickly to shut out the FNR captain! It was a good save and an important one that ensured his team stayed top and unbeaten and poised nicely for a title push going into the second half of the season. Big Grill don’t play next week but return the week after against title rivals Athletico, however they will be hoping FNR make life as difficult for Athletico next week when they take them on first!
