Match Report Divison 3 North Holyhead 3 - Harlch 64 Harlech, travelling to Anglesey on the back of last weeks win over nearest rivals Llanidloes, were looking to maintain their 10 game winning streak against a Holyhead side who always give 100%, and today was no different. The Harlech side, saw 8 changes from last weeks side, 3 of them positional, that really tested the squad of the castlemen, but with several players returning from injury or enforced absences, were still able to field a strong side. On a lovely day for rugby, both sides showed their determination early on, but it was the Castlemen who got on the scoreboard first, with Ynyr Roberts finishing off a slick move, to put the Castlemen in control. A try by Richard Foulkes, and an excellent try by Cedri Williams who crashed over to bring a flowing move to an end, saw Harlech 17-0 up after 20 minutes and the bonus point beckoned. The travelling Harlech faithful didnt have to wait long with Ynyr Roberts adding his second following a strong burst in midfield by the youngster, to give him his 15th try of his debut season. The game got a little feisty for a while, and one of the Holyhead pack saw yellow for a late charge on Ed Williams, who was everywhere in this game, allowing Harlech to push on. Fly Half Ben Bailey added the next score, on a very succesful day for the clubs usual full back, filling in at fly half. Bailey delivering a very accomplished performance, and pulling the strings of the potent Harlech backline all day long. Sion Rees chipped in with his usual weekly try, from short range, following some excellent powerful running by the outstanding Dylan Wynne Evans in the centres. Evans was unplayable for the majority of this game, and his powerful runs, saw gap after gap being exploited by the Castlemen. The half ended with Harlech in a respectable 38-0 lead. The break saw a few changes made, and the returning Tom Pugh was next to trouble the scorers out on the wing, following some slick hands in midfield. Harlech conceded a penalty some 40 meters out, and Holyhead got the scoreboard moving with a penalty to put the score at 45-3. The power of Gorwel Rogers was the next score, followed by a score for Ed Williams following more pressure on the Holyhead line. Rees crossed for his 14 try of the campaign, to keep the pressure on Ynyr Roberts for the clubs golden boot for top try scorers. With Conversions being added by Dylan Evans x4, Ben Bailey x2 and Alex Evans x1, a final score of 64-3 in the Castlemens favour saw them remain top of the league. By far this fell short of the Castlemens best performance of the season, and Holyhead should take an awful lot of credit for that. The Holyhead forwards battled all day long, with pride and passion to contain Harlech, and their young backs tackled their hearts out to defend their line, something this proud club should take a lot of pride from. With Llanidloes losing at home to Bangor, Harlech moved 8 points clear at the top of the league, with Menai Bridge now becoming their nearest rivals, a side that Harlech must yet face in the league. Returns to the field for Russell Courtney, Jack Brooks, Dafydd Foulkes and Tom Pugh were the real positives to take for Harlech, but the performances of Alex Evans at 8, Ben Bailey at 10 and Dylan Evans at 13 will give the Harlech coaches some real selection dilemas in the coming weeks, as Harlech seek to finish the season on a high.
