Match Report Storm V Kyneton 20th July 2013 17 and Under Slippery wet conditions and lots of missed catches was just the beginning of our Saturday down at Kyneton. But the Storm girls showed what they are made of by backing each other up and chasing down loose balls. Some nice intercepts by Kaitlin Waterson and great moving by Jessey Wilson in C helped the ball get down our end with ease. BJ and Shelby were working well in the goal ring to bring us to a small lead at the first break, Storm 8 – Kyneton 5. In the second quarter Georgia and Liv were on fire putting a lot of defensive pressure on the Kyneton attack. Trevi and Jessey were moving and feeding well into our goalers which added more goals to the score. The team were gelling well together and making it look very easy despite the rain and cold conditions, 17 – 10. In the third quarter Kyneton made some changes which put some pressure on our defenders and court them off guard for a short time but they bounced back and stood strong with great intercepts and rebounds. BJ was showing her strength in the goal circle and moving brilliantly, 24 – 15. The Storm continued to dominate in the relentless wet conditions for the whole fourth quarter. Direct drives, clear passes and team work proved to be the winning ingredients for Storm against Kyneton, final score 33 – 19. Olivia takes home the Heidi For Hair award and Georgia gets the Strath Fish ‘n’ Chips voucher. B reserve The first quarter was just like the 17’s, cold wet and slippery. Sherene and Ed were working well in defence with great rebounds and communication. Loose balls everywhere as the ball was slippery and muddy. Even possession of the ball by both teams but Storm were able to convert goals and get more points on the board, Storm 10 – Kyneton 6. Kyneton made some changes coming on in the second quarter and got a run on. Storm were unsettled with their changes and could not get their mojo back. Kyneton got within 1 goal and the pressure was on, luckily the rain stopped making catching slightly easier. Storm held on and got back to a 4 goal lead at half time, 22 – 18. Changes again in the third quarter meant Storm’s flow and settled play was back giving them a few quick goals and tight defence. Kyneton made use of the sub rule and shuffled players in defence trying to put a stop to our goalers. This was working for Kyneton as they started to come back again, 32 – 27. In the fourth quarter Kyneton made use of the sub rule again and again which unsettled Storm for a short time but were not going to give in. Through sheer determination and team work Storm lifted and were able to shut down the Kyneton attack end and capitalise on all opportunities giving them a 13 goal victory. Final score Storm 46 – Kyneton 33. Cayla gets the National Hotel Award and Lisa takes the Brazilian Beauty voucher. B grade Shaky start to the game however the defence were working well and Kaylee was effective. Too many unforced errors meant scrappy netball and not many goals for the first quarter Storm 3 – Kyneton 12. Wet conditions meant ball was hard to grip and footwork was a problem. Kyneton continued to get away but we had a late surge just before half time bringing the scores to 8 – 24. Alicia Rady was valuable to the team and the defenders were tight and managed many turnovers. Kyneton too strong and gaining momentum pushing the scores further apart, 13 – 34. More scrappy netball and poor choices by Storm and many missed opportunities allowed Kyneton to take the 4 points despite Storm having an awesome surge in the last 3 minutes of the game. Final score Storm 22 – Kyneton 45. Kristen took home the Braidies Tavern voucher this week. A reserve With only 5 of the usual A res players Storm were set for a great challenge, having lost to Kyneton by 1 goal last time they met it was anyone’s game. Kaitlin and Noni stepped up to help out to make the starting 7 and Cayla was on the bench in case of any injuries. Em B was on fire from long ranges and defence were working well with Taylah picking off many intercepts. At the end of the first quarter Storm had 11 and Kyneton sitting happily on 15. In the second quarter the defenders put in a great effort and pressure all through the court made it easy for goalers who were not missing. Great mid court work from Ez. Storm 24 – Kyneton 30. Great start for young Kaitlin plucking out some great intercepts and Ez having another great quarter with turnovers a plenty. The defenders were working hard against a tall attack but the accuracy was too good leaving not many opportunities for rebounds, 31 – 42. Rain started in the last quarter which lowered spirits and enthusiasm for both teams. Kyneton kept up their goaling and Storm slowly dropped off giving Kyneton a 15 goal lead at the end of the game. The girls did work hard all game and thanks to Noni and Kaitlin for stepping up and helping us out when we were short players. Final score Storm 40 – Kyneton 55. Kaitlin took home the Nirvana Massage voucher, Alicia gets the Braidies Tavern award and Erin gets the National Hotel award.
