May I say: KUDOS DUDE! And thank goodness the Christian faith does - TopicsExpress

May I say: KUDOS DUDE! And thank goodness the Christian faith does not call for lashings of those who insult our religion! We would have an instant lash-a-thon of millions because worldwide, our faith is insulted daily. This brave young man took a stand for womens basic freedom: A few weeks ago, I published a book in which I argued that Muslim women should not be forced to wear the veil because it represents too often their subjugation by men. When I arrived in this country from Uganda in the Seventies, British Muslim women did not wear headscarves or cover their faces. But it has been revived as a practice, partly thanks to the exporting of hardline Islam from Saudi Arabia around the world. I grew up visiting places but mainly lived in DC. In the 1960s and 70s we had dignitaries visiting DC from all over the world. My father, who translated for the government back then (he spoke several languages including Arabic dialects- a talent I do not share) often met them at the airport with a State Department entourage. On more than one occasion I would see a man getting off the plane with one- or more- women. He would be from a Middle Eastern land and the woman or women with him would make a direct bee-line to the ladies room to change into appropriate American clothing. They were still beautiful, regardless of what they wore, be it flowing clothing with the hijab or an a-line skirt, heels and pill box hat. Today the hijab is being framed as a choice. What many western Muslim women see as a choice, however, is not a choice for many women around the globe. And, as this young man points out, as hardliners take over, the choice goes out the window. Pray for this brave young man, Raif Badawi. I pray he will come to know Jesus but I also pray for his life as he takes on the difficult task of supporting basic, human rights. independent.co.uk/news/people/raif-badawi-sentenced-to-1000-lashes-the-man-who-started-free-saudi-liberals-website-has-ignited-a-global-debate-9979929.html And pray for his wife, too, as she struggles with his fate.
