McCumber Lake, before and after. The reservoir was built by Northern California Power Company in 1907 as the 3rd reservoir for Volta Powerhouse. It was constructed mainly by imported Portuguese laborers. It covers 150 acres and has a storage capacity of approximately 1200 acre feet. It is located nine miles northeast of Viola. Was named for George McCumber who settled on the meadowland that became known as McCumber Flat in the 1850s.
