Meat & Potatoes Yellow-billed Magpie from the Central Valley of California. Perhaps you know that magpies are corvids, along with crows, ravens, and jays, generally thought to be among the most intelligent birds. When you think of magpies, you usually think of medium-large black & white, long-tailed birds, such as the Eurasian (or Common) Magpie, and the Black-billed and Yellow-billed Magpies from North America. The Yellow-billed Magpie is slightly smaller than the other two species; it has a core range in the Central Valley of California, and is still, as far as I know, the only bird species that has not been found naturally outside Californias boundaries.
