Medieval and Mythology Since Christmas is near, Id like to propose the hagiography of Saint Wenceslas martyr, patron of Check Republic. King Wenceslas I lived in the X century and he was known for being a very generous Christian king, in an era when the Christianity wasnt diffused in the eastern Europe. He was in fact killed by his brother. It is said that no one could clean his blood from the wooden floor. In the XIX century a song has been composed in his honor, using a Renaissances melody of the XVI century, which is considered today, in Northen Europe countries, as a Christmas Carol, because of the mention of Saint Stephen. Between the many versions of Good King Wenceslas, my favorite one is that by Blacmores Night, you can find it in the album: Winter Carols. Egli fu infatti ucciso da suo fratello. Si dice che nessuno sia riuscito a lavare via il sangue dal pavimento in legno. Nel XIX secolo fu composta una canzone in suo onore, su una melodia rinascimentale del XVI secolo, che viene oggi considerata, nei paesi del nord Europa come un canto natalizio, per la menzione del giorno di Santo Stefano.
