Meet Dudley - Here is his story: My foster mom named me Dudley. I was handed over without a name after years of being tied up outside. I was once a happy puppy playing with brothers and sisters in warmth and love but one day was taken and tied up outside to watch the yard of a home. I watched people come and go, heard talking and laughing and smelled good food and saw warm lights, but that was not for me. I was left out in all kinds of weather, in the kind of cold that makes you run from your car to your house, day in, day out, and all night. My poor body shows signs of that hard life, my bones ache before my time and my right eye is clouded over and my voice hoarse. I show signs of cruelty. I have a burn scar on the back of my head, where I should have been stroked but was instead burned by cruel children. My body shows these signs of neglect but miraculously my heart does not. I was overjoyed at the touch and care of kind vets and volunteers who took me on despite my not being a cute and cuddly puppy anymore. I now live with a foster family who hug me and pat me and say things like “Good boy, Dudley” and “We love you, Dudley.”. They are teaching me to play again. I had forgotten how to do that. I wag if you look at me or talk to me, and will gamely follow you around the house as much as possible. I have a soft, soft bed now, that I sink into and sigh. Sometimes I wake up a little bit, remember I am here now and not there, wiggle a little deeper into the bed and wag and I am off to sleep again. I even wag in my dreams now. I need a quiet, mellow forever home with people who will love me for my retirement. I can’t be an athlete anymore but I can love and play with a big old soccer ball and be grateful for any tiny attention or kindness you pay me. I need comfort and company, because Ive been starved for it for so long.
