Meet Hudson. Soon to join our family, I hope. She is a rescued-from-a-high-kill-shelter classic GSD....assumed to have been used for breeding purposes. Gentle. Sweet. Quiet. Doesnt miss a beat. 3-5 years old (they arent entirely sure). Has been living with a foster mom/family since September. They brought her weight back and showed her stability of sorts. Pretty much ignores other dogs and cats - focusing on her people instead, young and old. LOVES car rides (Home Depot, PetCo, anywhere....) It sounds like she has the beginning of degenerative joint issues though. One vet says maybe never surgery if handled properly. Another says shes been compromised so definitely cant be a strenuous hiking/running partner.... I have a 4 year old Shepherd Malinoise-mix. A non-alpha, goof-ball male. I think they will get along fine. Does anyone have any experience with GSDs with impending joint issues to nurture? I bought her a comfy, thickly padded large bed so shes not on the cool/cold tile floors; have a big yard for exercise; and we take frequent walks on fairly level-ish dirt/paved roads 1-3 miles... Having Hudson and Toby meet this weekend at a neutral location....then, moving her in on a long weekend in February so I am around to monitor behavior as everyone gets used to one another (Toby and 3 fearless cats who love their dog...). Experiences and suggestions welcomed...
