Meet Scooter (warning: GRAPHIC pictures). Scooter was surrendered to ARC just yesterday, a broken, mess of a dog. He suffers from KCS, which means he is unable to lubricate his own eyes; his toenails were ingrown so badly that its left his paws swollen and holes in his paw pads; his ears are riddled with fungus; and his whole spirit is crushed. Upon arrival, Jerri and Jenni immediately got to work on Scooter. Between pain and fear, Scooter had to be muzzled to keep him from snapping at them as they worked to trim his nails, bathe him, and treat him. They shaved mats of feces and who knows what else out of his fur and his tail. His eyes and ears were treated. Scooter then slept for a full 2 hours before Jenni was able to wake him for some supper. 24 hours later, Scooter is very skittish of most of the staff (except of course for Jerri, who he seems to have bonded with). He is walking a little better in the grass and enjoying treats Jerri offers him. This boy has quite a bit of healing time ahead of him, and will have to learn to trust again, and is in need of quite a bit of dental care. We estimate that he is between 12-15 years old. This is why we are here; why ARC does what we do.
