Meet Solar Impulse 2, an aircraft that can fly for up to 5 days - TopicsExpress

Meet Solar Impulse 2, an aircraft that can fly for up to 5 days straight and will reportedly be able to fly around the world. The plane is an impressive feat of engineering, with wings as wide as a 747, but weighing only a little more than the average car. Tests of the aircraft will begin in a few weeks, with the round-the-world attempt planned for next March. The Solar Impulse team is headed by Bertrand Piccard, the first man to take a balloon around the globe, and André Borschberg, an engineer and entrepreneur. Large portions of the flight will be over land, which means that the aircraft can potentially land whenever its convenient, allowing the two pilots to exchange roles and restock the cabin. bit.ly/1iFvrqN via Ars Technica
