Meet Tarell Alvin McCraney, 2013 MacArthur Fellow and playwright of IN THE RED AND BROWN WATER playing February 6 - March 14 at Celebration Arts. IN THE RED AND BROWN WATER is the first in McCraneys trilogy called THE BROTHER SISTER PLAYS, which are described as “gritty coming-of-age stories” about love, self-sacrifice and community stemming from his poor Miami roots where he was raised by his mother. IN THE RED AND BROWN WATER is a tapestry of West African Yoruba cosmology woven into a contemporary story. The story engages audiences in exciting and unexpected ways as they follow the protagonist, Oya, a promising runner hoping to make something of herself while struggling between duty and her dreams.
