Meet the newest Genesis client, Andrew Collins! Andrew and Motive began their intenstive team training this week, and if all goes according to plan, Motive will accompany Andrew home to Longwood, Florida in two weeks to be his forever companion and assistance dog. Andrew is a 21 year old college student who has Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, a peripheral nervouse system disease characterized by progressive loss of muscle tissue and touch sensation. Andrew was diagnosed at age 4 and has mobility limitations, muscular weakness, and balance and coordination issues. Some of the tasks that Motive will be helping Andrew with are retrieving dropped items, opening doors utilizing the handicap button, opening interior doors and helping with balance in transitional movements. Motive will also accompany Andrew to school when he attends classes. We welcome Andrew and his family members to the Genesis family and know that he and Motive will be best of friends.
