Mehmet(Hurrems eldest son) died due to small pox and Jihangir died as he was a huncheback(ppl with such a disease usually dont live long).With the death of the next contender for the throne,Mustafa,Hurrem could finally know that one of her sons would end up inheriting the throne.However,uptill her death,she tried to supress the ever evident rivalry between Beyazid and Selim. There are many theories on how Hurrem Sultan eventually died.Some say she died a natural death.Some say that she died due to malaria and colic.Others say that she was poisoned.One account suggests that she went with the sultan to Edirne.There her illness started.She tried to hide it,but in the end it became apparent.When the sultan called her to his chambers,she went but fainted.After that,her illness started to get worse.She spent her last days in bed rest.Her last words were: I love you,Suleiman.I always have.Haseki Hurrem Sultan breathed her last in the year 1558. Sultan Suleiman was utterly devastated by her death and was inconsolable for months.He had her buried in the Suleimaniye Mosque in a beautifully decorated domed structure.He mourned his death through out the rest of his life and didnt take another wife after her.He became the absolute opposite of his nature.A few days after her death,Suleiman said,She,Hurrem was a woman whose eyes penetrated my heart,lips and mind.Just one of her look,I could not exchange for anything in the world.She called my name and I immediately transferred to Heaven.She to me was not just a woman;she was my musk,flower,My Sultana,my passion and love,she was my whole world.I had to bring her joy and drove Mahidevran out of the palace.I rebelled against my mother. Suleiman died 8 years after Hurrems death.He is buried with her in the Suleimaniye Mosque in a separate structure.Above their graves,the tree of the flower love-lies-bleeding overhangs.(I guess even nature paid a tribute to their love! *sniff*) (This is my personal opinion.) [By the above words,you can see what place she held in the Sultans life and what love she gave him.so that,in return,he spoke these words for her.You can tell that he loved her so much(because of her love and loyalty to him) that he didnt regret banishing Mahidevran and disobeying Valide.Suleiman even wrote poems after her death expressing his loneliness and his longing for her.She was his wife,his adviser,his companion and his friend.] HURREM SULTAN IN THIS DRAMA: Hurrem Sultan is played by Meryem Uzerli.In this drama,she is shown as Alexandra(daughter of a priest).She converts to islam and slowly and gradually,turns from a slave to a sultana.She has to face many enemies and fight many battles,but with the Sultans support and with the help of some confederates,she manages to outmanuver her opponents.
