Member Share! It is Breastfeeding Awareness Month and I just wanted to share my BFing story! I gave birth to B/G Twins at 23+5 weeks on 8-17-13. My girl, Evangeline was the biggest at 1 pound 1oz and 9 long. My boy, Ethan was just 14.8oz and also 9 long. I knew when I got pregnant that I wanted so badly to breastfeed. I was crushed in more ways than 1 when they came so early and the DRS gave me NO hope on nursing, but I pumped. I had SO MUCH and I was proud. I lived everyday at that NICU, seeing my babies, praying, and pumping. When they were 2 1/2 months old, I got sick and had to be put on a medication that practically dried me up. I was devastated! Id pump and pump and get fractions of what I was once able to produce. I almost gave up. But I didnt. I kept going and after about a month of pumping EVERY 2 HOURS my supply started to build back up. When Evangeline was 3 1/2 months old, we tried to latch her on, nothing. We tried the shield...shes latch, get frustrated and cry. I tried every feeding...same thing. Three days later Ethan was able to try...I did some reading and I put the milk on my nipple to let him taste it, and hed latch, but fall asleep quick. But he latched!!!! I was thrilled and thought for sure Evie would too. But she never did. They are turning 1 in 11 days and I am proud to say that I both bottle and breastfeed. Ethan still breast feeds, and I pump to bottle feed Evie. I am proud that I was able to do this when so many moms of micro preemies say they were unable...I just want to give them hope that they can, and if they cant that it is ok too!!!! We are MOTHERS not MAGIC! Preemie Power!
