Merry Christmas Eve my friends! As you plan your activities for - TopicsExpress

Merry Christmas Eve my friends! As you plan your activities for the next 48hrs I simply wanted to update you on the impacts of the weather on those plans. The potent storm moving up through the Ohio Valley and eventually into Canada is going to pummel the East Coast with rain and even storms from Florida to the Mid-Atlantic. This system spawned several tornadoes in the Gulf states and Southeast over the last 24hrs, sadly with four reported deaths. The NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center has a tornado watch for potential tornadic development in an area roughly covering the Central Panhandle of Florida, South Eastern Georgia and South Carolina. spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md1994.html Although the rain totals in the modeling (courtesy of WxBell) have come down over the last few days, we have a huge moisture feed setting up along the entire East Coast, especially through the afternoon and first half of the night where it is going to downright pour at times. Christmas day looks much calmer, but well still have a ton of instability as the cold front slides through and opens the door for a wind shift. Looking to the weekend, well have a drastic airmass change beginning, with temps declining for pretty much the entire week next week. Models are suggesting that we wont get above freezing by Thursday and Friday….brrr! The snowfall map Ive attached is cumulative for the period ending Jan.1, and its picking up on the potential for two small events. One is a Mid-Atlantic quick-hitter, as a clipper-type system shoots out and blows up over the Atlantic, and then another system which may move up from the Southeast just in time for New Years Eve. More to come on that later, for now enjoy your Holiday in whatever way you celebrate, and thanks again for including me and my forecast in part of it! :)
