Message sent to #MorningJoes Mika Brzezinski that will probably never be read: Dear Mika, Im a childfree (used instead of childless to distinguish between choice and what is for many an unfortunate circumstance) newspaper writer (features & columns) who watches Morning Joe as part of my morning routine. This morning, you were unnecessarily critical of people who, if I understood you correctly, felt too strongly about their pets when that energy could go toward family. It disturbs me that someone with your platform, with the audience you have, tried to make people feel bad for simply caring. It is never wrong to show compassion or kindness or to feel love, whether for a human, animal, sea creature, or row after row of marigolds in a greenhouse. People should be praised for it, wherever and however they show it – not shamed for it. Isnt there already enough nastiness and cruelty and judgment in the world? Must you add to it, and so early in the morning? Most people haven’t even made it halfway through a cup of coffee by the time Morning Joe starts. Some poor guy enjoying his coffee with a cat purring on his flannel lap, who did absolutely nothing wrong, started his day with your snarky judgment of his affection for his cat. Why? It is not up to you to determine who should be the recipients of love. There is plenty of love to give, and there are far too many living things in need of it. It all balances out quite nicely, don’t you think? All kindness is good. Please reserve your judgment for people who do harm, and please try to do less harm, yourself. Thanks, Kristen Tsetsi
