Met a gentleman who came to the church office to see if a Pastor - TopicsExpress

Met a gentleman who came to the church office to see if a Pastor would pray with him - lunchtime - no one immediately available - this giant of a man - with such a gentle spirit began crying - hed just walked from his Dr.s office where he received the news that he likely has cancer - will have a biopsy tomorrow. Said he had no family - doesnt appear to have any close friends - says he knows Jesus but is not involved with any local church - works the midnight shift - but didnt indicate close friendships. Mr. R was the most alone seeming person in that moment Ive ever encountered. We prayed together (tears leaked from my eyes too) - I told him our church would love to be family to him - our Counseling Pastor had become available at that point and gave him a ride home, then went back to his home later this afternoon to spend some time with him and to see how we may best come alongside and help. Friends - to hear the word cancer is scary - I know from personal experience - regardless of how minor or serious the outcome may ultimately be - upon hearing the word initially - most folks are scared. Imagine having no family member, neighbor nor close friend - having absolutely no one to tell - who will cry with you, be scared for you,who will encourage you, who will love you - no matter what. There are lots of folks all around us who may feel totally abandoned or alone today in whatever circumstances theyre facing - may God open our eyes and hearts to see and hear them. May He show us our part in helping them feel loved and cared for. May they come to know the One who never forsakes those who belong to him. Please pray for Mr. R tonight - that he will not feel so alone, that his fear and anxiousness would be replaced with the peace of God, that the Lord would put people in his path to encourage him and who will befriend him.
