Methane in the Movies #4 In Evolution (2001), a meteorite crashes to Earth in northern Arizona where it becomes enclosed in a cave. The heat of the crash causes the meteorite to emit ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and methane. This leads to the formation of bacterial life, eukaryotic life, multicellular life, ecosystems, and ultimately oxygen-breathing carnivores that must be stopped.
