Micro fauna - Food Chain Level 3 - Progress Update As many of you are aware we have been culturing the Micro Food chain layer of the marine aquatic eco habitat. With our process to culture Phytoplankton and Zooplankton now mastered, our mission now is the culture of the bigger PODs (Copepod and the larger Amphipod) which forms the 3rd level in the food chain. In our aquaria, amphipods are typically part of the cleanup crew and also known as detritivores. In addition, they are good food for whatever fish can catch them. Altogether they are a beneficial and interesting component of our systems fauna. Detritris - Non living decaying organic matter is something in our tanks we can do without, this decaying matter adds to the challenge of attaining low nutrient systems. Not only a food source but incredible busy little cleaners of our aquariums. As little as they are they function as micro cleaners and part of our tanks CUC but often overlooked due to their size. Fill an essential gap in the home aquarium food chain with live amphipods. POD reproduction rates are not yet as fast as we would like, but this is experimental phase with tweaking their ecosystem to achieve best results. Still very much WIP but thought an update was overdue.
