Mike Huckabee Today, the battle of the century: leftwing politics versus reality… Many people are looking at the bankrupt shell that used to be the mighty city of Detroit and asking, “How did this happen?” There are a lot of causes, but the root of Detroit’s problems is nearly six decades of one-party rule. In Detroit, absolute power corrupted absolutely. Progressives enjoyed unchallenged power, and they became progressively more greedy, incompetent and criminal. Union bosses helped elect Democratic politicians, who in return gave unions blank checks on the taxpayers’ accounts. Productive people got tired of being milked like cash cows and fled. The takers began to outnumber the makers, and when a parasite becomes bigger than its host, they both die. Progressives like to flatter themselves that they’re the “reality-based community.” But after nearly 60 years of out-of-control taxing and spending, arrogant and corrupt leaders, government dependency and strangling of business, what happened to Detroit could happen to us all: “progressivism” finally crashed on the rocks of reality.
