Fridays No Longer Has Employees Wear Flair Because Of Office Space June 18th, 2014 8:01pm EDT | By: Kevin Blair Add to My News Like 9plusone0 Tweet0 1 Mike Judge recently discussed the cult status that his 1999 workplace parody Office Space has gained, revealing that a certain chain restaurant has changed the way it does business following the success of the film. Produced on a budget that barely broke the eight-digit mark, Office Space became the must-see film for anyone that works under rectangular fluorescent lights and in the cramped space of an office cubicle all day. The film features an eatery called Chotchkies, which is based on restaurant franchise T.G.I. Fridays, and goes on to poke fun at all the flair that the chain required its servers to wear on their uniforms. Thanks to the success of the film, Fridays no longer has its employees wear anything on their uniforms. “About four years after Office Space came out, T.G.I. Fridays got rid of all that flair, because people would come in and make cracks about it,” Judge told Deadline in a recent interview. One of my ADs (assistant directors) asked once at the restaurant why their flair was missing and they said they removed it because of that movie Office Space, he adds. So, maybe I made the world a better place. During the film Judge, in a cameo as Chotchkies manager Stan, chides server Joanna (Jennifer Aniston) for not having enough buttons (flair) on her uniform, telling her that 15 pieces of flair is the company minimum.
