Mild Start to Meteorological Winter SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – It’s a nice mild start to your Monday. It may be December 1st the first day of “Meteorological” winter but it wont feel like it. High temperatures will reach near 50 this afternoon out ahead of a cold front that will move through tonight. Outside of a sprinkle or two we’re not expecting much with this front but it will turn much colder overnight. But today will be nice and pleasant with sun mixed with clouds. There will be lots of melting snow and ice. Get out and enjoy if you can! Tomorrow will be much colder! Highs will only reach into the middle 30s. We’ll end up about 15 degrees colder than today! Any sunshine will give to some afternoon cloudiness. Tomorrow evening snow will develop then will change to sleet and freezing rain. This is not going to be a big storms but a quick inch of snow is possible tomorrow evening before it changes to light sleet and freezing drizzle. Even though the high pressure system over eastern Canada (providing the cold at the surface) will be departing, it may be difficult to erode the cold air Wednesday morning so the morning commute will likely be a bit icy. The precipitation will end Wednesday morning as it slowly turns milder. We should be into the 40s during the afternoon. An early look at Thursday and Friday shows dry conditions before a slow moving system may bring a light wintry mix to the area next weekend.
