One thing that is sadly lacking in current debate about radicalised islam is the historic context. People seem to think that the current flavor of religious conservatism and radicalism in islam is how it has always been and fail to understand that the current flavor of radicalisation is a relatively recent phenomenon with very shallow roots. And before anyone jumps to the conclusion that I am taking sides (as is usually the default assumption) this applies to everyone in the debate. Muslims, christians, atheists...everybody. Were all being screwed over by people who manipulate gullible, stupid, insecure people into committing atrocities using religion as a tool to get these simpletons to do their bidding. Just look at the kind of people they recruit. Largely pathetic losers. Young males with frighteningly low IQs and even less moral fiber. We are letting ourselves be manipulated with frightening ease. And quite predictably, I might add. Muslims are being manipulated into being outraged. And those who feel they have been attacked the last week are being manipulated into doing more of what the muslims are being manipulated into getting outraged over. This is a deadlocked situation and the only people who are gaining anything are the criminals who parade around various parts of the world playing kings or sultans or whatever fantasy they are aspiring to. Be it in Syria, Iraq, Nigeria or what have you. There is no real solution in arguing over who needs to back down first. Of course, this is mainly because the news outlets either have a political agenda, an audience that only wants to have its biases confirmed or because the managing editors of news outlets are clowns who like to parade around town pretending to be something they are not. No education or sensible analysis is taking place here. Just raw reaction and pointless polemics. Seriously, the only group of professionals I respect less than politicians are the current crop of editors. For dumbing down the masses so eagerly by pandering to the feeble of mind and by feeding us a steady diet av make-believe controversy, big asses and old clickbait. Shame on the newspapers. Shame on TV newscasts. And shame on us for being a dumb herd that lets itself be manipulated by criminals.
