Miles Sampa’s PF Fate Delayed to Monday The full bench of the Supreme Court today heard Miles Sampa’s application that is seeking that he be joined and be allowed to contest the Consent Judgment that was delivered in the High court. In this Judgement, Edgar Lungu was declared PF President and Presidential Candidate after PF Secretary General, Davies Chama and PF Chairperson Inonge Wina settled the case. The Supreme Court refused to hear another appeal where Sampa wanted the candidature of Edgar Lungu determined or barred until his application regarding the Consent Judgement was heard. The Supreme guided that their Judgement of the earlier matter will determine the other case and its outcome. Today, Edgar Lungu’s lawyers argued that Sampa can not be joined to the Consent Judgement to allow him to contest its legality as he was elected from an illegal gathering that was barred by the Courts of Law. The lawyers contended that any outcome of an illegal process barred by an injunction can not be legal. But Sampa’s lawyers contended that the General Conference that elected him was valid and legal as they were not aware about the Court Injunction. The Supreme Court will on Monday rule whether Sampa can be joined or be allowed to contest the Consent Judgement issued by Judge Mulenga. In the event that the Supreme Court allows Sampa to be joined to the Consent Judgment, he will issue originating summons before the High Court and the process will start afresh. Sampa was in attendance with hordes of his supporters accompanying him to the Supreme Court where police had mounted heavy security to quell any potential backlash. The Matero lawmaker won the Patriotic Front presidency in one of the two conflicting conferences held by the ruling party. However, his bid was thwarted by the Lusaka High Court but he has appealed the decision. Sampa has printed posters for the presidential poll but has not indicated on which ticket he will be standing. The Sampa camp is running out of time with nominations set to start on December, 17. There was high anticipation over the Supreme Court ruling but the interested parties will have to wait a little longer. Sampa is represented by Sakwiba Sikota, Sebastian Zulu and Makebi Zulu.
