Militaire Anglaise Jack Coates Esq., 182 Hyndland Road, Glasgow, Scotland Urgent 1st Royal Fusiliers 17th Inf Bgde 6th Division III Corps 10 Feb 1915 Dear John, Thanks ever so much for the ton of things I got while in the trenches. We came out yesterday morning for our four days “rest”. Tell Lottie how very pleased I was to get the cigarettes and things - we’ve not tried the pudding yet but will have it tonight. It certainly looks good. I’m pretty well off for things just now since your supply of clothing but need some powder or something to put on blankets and among my kit and in my booty hutch to cope with les petites bêtes of various kinds - creeping things immeasurable both small and great beasts ! Haven’t time for much now ‘cos the other people have gone ballooning off down to the Field Ambulance place and left one in with the Coys (Companys’) letters to censor. Hope you’re keeping fit and getting rid of the flue. I am living in hope of getting Home next month on 8 days leave but we will soon make a bundobust to meet if such a thing should happen, and make up for a little lost time. Love to you both - write me whenever you’ve time. Yours always Billie
