Minister of foreign affairs in germany, G.Westerwelle not only - TopicsExpress

Minister of foreign affairs in germany, G.Westerwelle not only said that it was a „hard backlash from democracy“ what happens in Egypt but he also said Morsi was a good partner because he negociated well with hamas and that also Obama congratulated him for this. There is nothing new about Europe and US supporting islamist group and dictators to safe their interests - and weaking this way the libertarian movements within the people. But there is a new „legitimation“ discourse. Till 2011 it was „those people don’t want democracy.“ After 2011, when that was obviously no longer possible they found (and still find!) a way to call „democracy“ which turned out to be a political-religious-neoliberal dictatorship. Arbitrarly Morsi called legimate what he and his party commited: a constitution allowing abuse of power, laws that prohibited dancing, thousands of arrests, tortured, milicia killing protesters and more. Arbitrarly, regardless their own proclameted principles, EU and US elite decided to strengthen his back in his interpretation of what is a „democracy“. When people went in the streets in millions that was a sign that they wanted to free themselves and that they had another expectance what „democracy“ could be. This expectatation was already expressed in 2011 and it inspired the whole world to protests. Politicians like Westerwelle are reshaping the term of „democracy“- away from freedom and equal chance towards „security“. Also not new, it seems to me never having been more openly spoken out than now. The reason why the minister of foreign affair is „worried“: „The islamist may radicalize themselves and cause a civil war.“ So the military has one more reason to let the situation escalate. To show the world and the people how „radical“ and violent the Islamists already are- and how important their role as the „security“ is. Finally this will serve everybodies interests: Military, Brotherhood, EU and US have the interest to break the will and courage of all the people to fight for freedom and social justice.
