Ministry of health has embarked on a national campaign to tackle sickle cell disease mostly in areas worst hit by the disease. The campaigns kicked off in Northern and mid Northern Uganda said to have the highest prevalence of the disease. The preliminary findings of the recent Uganda Sickle Cell surveillance study indicate that the region has 18.6 % sickle cell trait, therefore calling for massive interventions to curb it.
