Mirror of the Day Immanuel is God-amongst-us, and he points our teshuqa flaming arrow of the Holy Spirit of the covenant back to the Father of all. Were he to return from *below* rather than above, it changes a lot of ways we think about things, and we would do well to prepare one another to think that way. I will see if I can find a way of saying this shortly and simply aimed at protestant evangelicals of my own tradition, as if I were training my son. This is all an academic exercise. Or perhaps not. I hear music in the air, a sense of anticipation. What confuses the message is fear of friends being found wanting. What confuses it is guilt and fear. This too I may need to explain more so friends can challenge me if they wish. I dont think a parousia would be the fearsome *physical* conflict many imagine. Its the *end* of the domestic strife in Eden, it is Genesis 4:1 where a repentant and waiting Eve is given a kiss by Adam. She has teshuqa-ed towards her husband, and he picks her bowed body up and gives her a kiss. How would this look expanded in Israel at the advent of Jesus? A few who were waiting, saw their salvation, but the temperal authorities were always watching, and the more the crowds grew, the more the authorities watched. What would a second run look like? Authorities that expect no messiah. And crowds that dont expect one either. But perhaps thered be *thousands* of messiahs, all backed up against their house doors. Whose turn is it now, lads? We have the element of surprise. Weve got the whole world surrounded, but they are pushing us to the wall. Will you break covenant? Or will you sound the alarm? But the trumpet call is not WAR it is PEACE. Do it gently, but do it surely, ask them to look round at the army of your brothers behind them! See if theyll chat with you about where they come from and offer to help them clean up their house. This is more psychological than anything, because where we all come from is HUMAN. Try this and God himself could knock off put his feet up on a footstool and watch it all on TV. When YOU have won YOUR battle-S hell parousia along your parade. Its not about you giving him credit then, its about him saying Well done son. What are we waiting for? Take your time if you want to, or launch surprise LOVE attacks. My guess is hell just want to join you, an army of role models for a boy, a dad could tell him is its His teshuqa, his destiny and his bride. What does a God within humanity look like when its all knights at a round table, all made in the same image too? The timing would only need to be perfect if it was a matter of making war under a kings command. But if its just a matter of the first being last, and hes younger and fitter and catches up, let the knowledge weve got our dad in front of us and more sons coming up from behind, lets just all move on in, lets explore other peoples teshuqa, and see if theyll take us home to meet their dad. Perhaps therell be miracles. Perhaps therell be tears, but when the end is in sight its uplifting; and the sight of peace breaking out, can be more addictive than war. Redouble the efforts in diplomacy, triple the urns of tea. It takes not a village but an army of covenant brothers to train a king. Dont be invisible. Dont be silent. Answer graciously but answer. Hes not your supervisor but your undervisor. Its all done with mirrors. If youre in his image, then hell be in your image too. Forget all the smokey things, remember the mirror things, isnt that what mirrors are for!
