Miscarriage at UTH in plain sight of Doctors and Nurses ...Open letter to Health Minister, Dr. Kasonde. My name is Michael Chisenga, a House Help in the leafy upmarket suburb of Roma. I live in nearby Garden Township. It is with great shock and pain that I wish to inform you of the loss of our child with my wife due to a miscarriage at UTH over the weekend as a result of Doctors negligence. On Saturday, 5th July, 2014, my wife had abnorminal pains which had troubled her from the night of 4th July, 2014. She went to Chaisa Clinic, she was referred to Chipata Clinic where, again, she was referred to UTH. She was being tossed from pillar to post while in great pain. She arrived at UTHs Maternity ground floor at 09:00hrs on Saturday and was not attended-to until the next morning on Sunday, 6th July, 2014. She waited and waited in great pain as did another pregnant lady on the Queue. Unfortunately for the other lady, she died right there while waiting for the Doctor to see her. By the time the Doctor was seeing my wife some 24 hours later, on Sunday morning, it was discovered that she suffered a miscarriage while waiting for the Doctor! Doctors and Nurses had for 24 hours just been criss-crossing with empty promises that they would attend to her. And she was there before them in plain sight. By the time they did, 24 hours later, it was too late. While my wife waited, the Baby couldnt wait and just petered out. The Doctor examined my wife and said there was nothing in her womb as the baby had come out during the wait in form of tissue. Doctors negligence. I wonder whether ex-Post editor turned diplomat, Chansa Kabwela is not hanging her head in shame. At the same UTH in 2011, she published pictures of a pregnant woman giving birth in the open during a workers strike. Nothing has changed at UTH, even with the change of government. Someone is not attended-to for 24 hours, what kind of Health care is that? And yet as PF government, you promised us so much. So much remains as broken promises; Chipata clinic is a nightmare where one goes there in the morning and are only attended-to in the afternoon! Whats going on? Michael Chisenga.
