Mkay. So I really dont want to sound unsympathetic to the victim. Because I couldnt be more sympathetic. Rape should be considered a capital offense. Treason, murder, and rape. The only 3 capital offenses. However, this piece of garbage technically was already convicted, sentenced, and completed his sentence. Doesnt the Double Jeopardy clause of the 5th Amendment prohibit punishing someone twice for the same crime. ...nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb... By extending this rapists sentence because it was deemed unsatisfactory (it was, dont mistake me), doesnt this set a precedent? What stops someone who was sentenced to life in prison from having his/her sentence bumped up to execution? What stops newly elected judges from re-sentencing a convict to a higher sentence because he/she believes the previous judge was too lenient? 14 years is not enough. And if I were elected to any office with the ability, I would never, in a million years, commute his sentence. However, this case does beg the question as to whether sentences can Constitutionally be extended.
