Moe Milliken passed away this week. Moe Milliken (January 5, 1932 - June 11, 2014) Send Flowers Send Sympathy Card Sign Guest Book | Send Private Condolences Funeral Services for Moe Milliken will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Mr. Dave Thorell officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege. Moe Milliken, 82 years of age, of Omaha, Nebraska (formerly Holdrege) passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. He was born on January 5, 1932 at Naponee, Nebraska, the only child of Randall and Ione (Bendel) Milliken. He was raised by his grandparents, William and Pearl Bendel in Naponee. Moe received his education from Naponee Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1949. He then pursued higher education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for one year and then Kearney State College graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While in college, Moe became very involved in broadcasting and worked for KGFW radio station. Following his schooling, he was employed for KHOL-TV, now known as Nebraska Television Station (NTV) from 1954 to 1964 where he was known as “Cousin Moe” and did “Kiddies Corner.” Moe then went to work for KUVR radio station, where he served as general manager for seven years. In 1973, Moe left broadcasting and accepted a position as Industrial Relations and the Human Resource Manager for Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege until his retirement in 1994. Moe and Jean then moved to Omaha, where they were closer to their children. On August 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Alma “Jean” Porter at Trenton, Nebraska and to this union three sons were born: Larry, Steven and Scott. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Moe was very active in the community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a past trustee and served on numerous committees and a member of the Holdrege Rotary and past president. He was also a past director of 1stSecurity Bank, and on the Board of Directors for Holdrege Chamber of Commerce. He received the Friend of Education Award in May of 1986 and the Nebraska School of Activities Association Award for Outstanding Service in 1998. Moe served as Layman at the Chapel of the Lake at Johnson Lake in Gosper County, where he assisted with Sunday Services in the summer months. He was the voice of Holdrege Duster football, announcing games for many years and also served as MC for many events through the years including anniversary’s, talent shows, chamber and sports banquets and was very fortunate to meet many great people through the years, many of which remained lifelong friends. Moe loved fishing and spending time at his cabin at Johnson Lake. He was an avid sports fan especially Husker and Duster football, but most importantly, loved spending time with his Grandchildren. Besides his parents; Moe was preceded in death by his step-father, Larry Chandler and half-sister, Carolyn Goodson. He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Jean of Omaha; three sons: Larry Milliken and his wife, Rosemary of Scottsdale, Arizona, Steven Milliken of Omaha and Scott Milliken and his wife, Linda of Bennington, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; half-brother, James Milliken and his wife, Shirley, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; half-sister, Bobbye Lamoureaux and her husband, Pete of Springfield, Massachusetts; brother-in-law, Barc Goodson of Denver, Colorado and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established in Moes honor and kindly suggested to the Team Jack Foundation; fighting for a victory in the battle against pediatric brain cancer.
