Mohilary obstinates over creation of Bodoland The Sentinel KOKRAJHAR, March 4 : Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary who is also the president of Bodoland People’s Party (BPF) and Bodo National Conference (BNC) today said that he was fully obstinate on the creation of Bodoland state. A public meeting of welcoming GK Pillai, former Union Home Secretary, who is heading the expert committee on Bodoland issue was held at Deborgaon in Kokrajhar. Addressing before over one lakh gathering, Mohilary said that the one–man expert committee on Bodoland issue is formed headed by former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai who will examine the viability of creation of Bodoland. He said different communities who are living within Bodoland area have fear psychosis whether their rights would be disturbed. He said the expert committee will take the opinion from all communities. Mohilary said the government of Assam whether it may be the Congress, AGP or BJP led government and intellectuals will never support further division of Assam and creation of Bodoland. He said Telangana government also opposed the creation of Telangana state but the Government of India created the new state. The Bodos also desire the same formula to be applied in the formation of separate Bodoland. “We cannot expect the creation of Bodoland under Congress, AGP or BJP led government in Assam and therefore, the Bodos want direct intervention of Union Government of India”, he said adding that the non–Bodos mainly from outside BTC areas were opposing the creation of BTC and calling bandhs in the region. Mohilary said the separate state is not created on the basis of population. A section of community is increasing abnormally but it is clear that the Bodos who are the aboriginal people of the state are outnumbered due to rampant increase of people from outside. He said the Oboro organizations who are opposing the creation of Bodoland have fear in their mind as the Bodoland is going to be formed. He also said not a single village from existing BTC would be excluded but the territory of Bodoland would be expanded. The convenor of Bodo National Conference– Anjali Daimary said she had not seen the Bodos getting their rights and privileges right from the development of language, literature, economic, development and infrastructures without struggle. She said the formation of expert committee is opposed by a section of group but it is not a good sign as the committee will submit their report within nine months and people should tolerate this period. She said if the recommendation of exert committee headed by former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai goes against the interest of the Bodos, then the people will definitely reject his idea but oppose before it works is unfortunate. Daimary said the Government of India has given a chance and this committee should be looked into with positive attitude. She also said the division among the society for an issue is not a good sign and the Bodos have no other option other than raising united voice over the issue. The huge crowd was also attended by MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, State Transport Minister Chandan Brahma, and others. Meanwhile, the minority community people pelted stones at the vehicles coming to the gathering at Kokrajhar at Angthihara and Sapkhata in Gossaigaon sub–division where three persons coming to the meeting were injured.
