Molly Taylor makes history in Finland with a gap from the first ( Koci ) of 15.47.9........... It looks like a bit of history was made on Sunday in Finland - its the first time a woman driver has stood on the podium in the JWRC. Women co-drivers have been there before, but never a woman driver: Taylor finished third behind winner Martin Koči and Quentin Giordano after a gutsy, battling performance. Its brought this reaction from the only woman ever to win a WRC event, the President of the FIA Women and Motor Sport Commission Michèle Mouton: “Molly did well to overcome some problems on Rally Finland to take her first podium in the FIA Junior WRC Championship. It is important to be able to remain focused and confident after such set-backs and she managed to do this. Each event provides new and fresh challenges and Molly continues to learn all the time; I am sure there is much she can take into the next rally in Germany and continue to improve further.” Sadly Molly isnt at Germany: the budget isnt there, but shes happy enough: It’s a dream come true to finish on the podium here and we certainly weren‘t expecting this outcome after what we went through on Friday and Saturday. We thought we were out of the event on two occasions, but despite the punctures and everything else that went wrong, we kept on fighting. I knew we had the potential to be in the top five on the stages and that a podium finish was possible because of the pace we had when everything was going well, and we’ve done it. I always love driving on these roads, so this is a real bonus. While she casts around for budget, Molly is full of praise for the team: she calls the week leading into the event and the rally itself, as one of the longest and toughest of her life, but also one of the most rewarding and enjoyable: “There are so many people to thank who not only helped us make it to Finland, but stuck by when things havent been going our way before. I cant tell you how much it means and how happy I am to have everything fall into place at long last! “Seb [Marshall] was amazing as always. It’s a pretty awesome feeling when you are flying along insanely fast roads and everything is coming up so fast but you hear every [pace] note exactly when and where you want it.” Theres a book here somewhere, but what Taylor needs - like so many other talented young drivers - are sponsors willing to put funding on the table.
