Monday “Heaven knows where Ill end up - but its a safe bet that Ill never be at the top of anything! Nor do I particularly care to be.”-H. P. Lovecraft We live in a world of constant contact between joy that is possible and pain that is all too common. We hope for love, peace, success and abundance, but we never quite forget that there is always lurking the possibility of disaster. Humans are by nature too complicated to be understood fully. So, we can choose either to approach our fellow human beings with suspicion or to approach them with an open mind, a dash of optimism and a great deal of candor. It’s useful to take a few moments out every once in a while and really think about who you are being right now and compare that to who you really want to be. Throughout time, as humans, we have all had moments of clarity when we felt that our Creator has sent a special blessing our way or that all of the good karma that we sent out to the universe was being returned to us. Have you ever wanted to show someone you appreciate what they have done for you? It can feel rather hard to thank someone who has really helped you in some way but it is important, as people appreciate genuine acknowledgment of their kindness, and it helps to encourage more goodwill in the world. A lot of times people dont give thanks to someone because they dont realize that they should thank someone. This is especially true of those times when you take for granted someones help or presence or advice. JFK said it best, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” Gratitude is the ability to recognize the blessings in life and to be truly grateful for them. People who spend more time doing things that express their gratitude tend to be considerably happier than people who dont. Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much it is whether we provide enough for those who have little.” The work of community, love, reconciliation, restoration is the work we cannot leave up to the politicians. This is the work we are all called to do. Being thankful for what you already possess allows your energy to flow in the direction of creating and attracting more good things. I think the best way to do that is to show appreciation and gratitude. Think about it. We all need love and appreciation and we are starving for it. Start today by giving a little appreciation to yourself and one other person. Tell someone thank you. Treat yourself to some little pleasure that lets you know that you deserve it. Be thankful for today. You are here and you have something to offer. To have gratitude is to not take things in life for granted, and realize how much its worth. Look at what you have and say a silent thank you. Try to be grateful for the abundance of the blessings that we have, for the journey that we’re on and to relish each day as a gift. Appreciate others. You get what you give. If you appreciate others without doing so for the return compliment, you will receive more compliments. It has to be the unselfish act of really being genuinely interested in the other person. Think happiness. Talk happiness. Give people compliments. Do favors. Be generous and kind. Everything you do to others, you will end up receiving and are bringing into your own life. Always remember, gratitude is an attitude and a mindset. Live it and pass it on. Thank you. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”- Melody Beattie
