Monday, October 7, 2013 Sea day on our way to Venice Well I woke up in agony. My adventures through Poseidon’s temple and the Acropolis really took their toll on my knees. They were not the size of grapefruits, they were bordering on melons, and not the honeydew kind!!!! Bob had arranged for a hot stone full body massage. When you arrive you get the royal treatment. The locker room was gorgeous. The lockers are made of teak wood and the locks are electronic bands that one wears through the entire process. The robes and slippers were the most decadent I have ever used…ahhhh…. You then proceed to a waiting area that overlooks the water, while a server is going around with citrus water and a variety of teas…. Talk about the lap of luxury… I was trying to use the surroundings to get my mind of the pain. When my therapist came to get me I could barely move my knees. It was a struggle to walk the few feet that was necessary to get to the spa room. When the therapist saw how I was walking she suggested and rearranged everything so I could get a specialty lower extremity treatment. When she started I was at the point of tears, I knew this would happen because I was at the stage already that I was sensitive to just the touch. I must say that the serene surroundings, the calming music and her mild voice did wonders to at least put me in some stage of relaxation, something I had not arrived with. I can’t really say what she even did, because at some point I fell asleep…something I really needed. She told me that I needed to rest for a while after this treatment… I headed straight for the cabin and I passed out….all the sleep I didn’t get last night I made up for. Poor Bob kept coming in to see what he could do and would leave me little notes so as to let me rest. When I finally woke up, he left me another note to join him in the hot tub…. He looooooves that hot tub… but it was really cold and windy, so I just went up, but did not go in. I didn’t want to overdo it during the day since we had plans for the evening, formal night!!! I am so sorry I only brought one gown on this trip… most people around here dress to the nines! Never seen so many tuxes… nice! I am so happy I brought Bob’s tux! We had another formal night last week, but we were not at our best that evening and pretty much did not participate and just strolled around the decks on our own. Tonight we did everything… We were joined by our cruisemates, Nelson and Florence from Boynton Beach. We went to a musical, which I must say was very nicely produced with snippets of such movies as Burlesque, Chicago and West Side Story. Then we had a decadent dinner. I had as an appetizer bleu cheese with roasted pears, it was even better than it sounds. The lobster with langostinos was my choice for the main course. Bob not only had the lobster but also beef wellington for his main course. Believe it or not, no we haven’t really gained weight. Bob’s tuxedo pants were still very loose on him and I was able to put on the same capris that I wore the day we arrived comfortably (frankly we’re in shock). We strolled around taking professional as well as our camera pictures, listening to the different bands that were in practically every corner of the ship. They had everything, from Salsa to classical music… we had a ball!!! Oh yes, there was a ball you could attend as well! Tomorrow we should arrive in Venice. I can’t wait to see it again. When I came here 2 ½ years ago with Argel we had a wonderful time. The only thing I kept thinking was how wonderful it would be to roam that place with your lover… now I will. The Lord blesses me indeed. How can one person be so blessed? My children are happy and successful. No offence to anyone else but…I have the most gorgeous grandchildren in the world, and now he had placed Bob in my life… what more can one ask for??? On a practical note… I heard that Venice has very good internet service, so I hope to be able to contact my kids and possibly my siblings and add this to Facebook. I hope you are enjoying this… Tuesday October 8, 2013…Port… VENEZIA, Italia Well what can I say??? We still got up early… The anticipation of the final port for this leg of the cruise can be felt in every corner of the ship... So many people exchanging numbers and e-mail addresses. Hugs, kisses, it’s really quite the sight. We seem to have struck it off with the people who are staying the second part of the cruise as well. It seems that there are about 600 passengers that are doing the 30 days. Around 10 AM Bob already had ants in his pants to get to the top deck and get a good place for the arrival to Venice. I would normally be the same, but it was FREEZING!!!!!! Nonetheless by 11 I had joined him… He picked a place in the Seawalk… yay…not. This is actually a free standing balcony which extends outside the main hull of the ship on its top decks. You can imagine that this was the first and possibly last time I stand in this thing. Anyway, Bob video-taped most of the arrival. The ship has a very unique identifier, first one ever. Instead of just blowing its horn, it blows a stance of the theme from the old TV series, “the Love Boat”. So from the moment the ship crossed Venice’s barrier islands it tooted its horn! People on the “sidewalks” were all waving and taking pictures… what a welcome!!!! From the ship’s speakers songs that spoke of the Mediterranean…. O sole mio, and Besame. Andrea Bocceli was front and center… well at least his voice was! As soon as we settled, we got into the Princess water shuttle and headed straight for San Marco!!!! What a sight!!! Although it was a rainy day, nothing could put a damper on strolling through that square. We took a picture practically at every bridge… then we reached the bridge of sighs. That is a crossing between the douge’s palace and the jail, where the prisoners got their final look out to Venice. We went to tour the Douge’s palace… you know I went off the deep end!!!! (the douges were a cross between a president and a king, they did not inherit their titles, rather they were chosen by their colleagues for a life reign) The architecture, the beauty, the history of the palace… oh my where to begin!!! Bob lost part of his interest when they told him he could not use the camera, it really put a damper on it for him… I was too busy trying to take it all in… even though I couldn’t even hit the surface. It was room after room, or rather sala after sala of works of art. I must say the Douges really enjoyed having their images immortalized. We continued to San Marco square… no, I did not drag Bob through another cathedral. But again we must have taken at least 2 dozen shots of the square between us… in spite of the bad weather. We decided to roam around the street and alley ways and we would up in the Rialto! Oh the view!!!! We of course wandered through its markets and shops… We got so far into the islands that we decided to eat in a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere… with WIFI of course… Bob caught up with his work… I caught up with my kids. I got to speak to Robby and Angie, no luck with Ali but I’ve been able to text with her better that anyone else. When we left we realized we were, let’s say a bit confused as to where we were. Fortunately, Venesians are very friendly and a man took us through all the streets and alleys that a few hours before had been so fascinating, to the Roman Plaza, the doorway to the Port. We took a People mover (a monorail) to about a mile from the ship… we were dead by the time we arrived in the room.
