Monday Thoughts: By definition an Eclectic is one who derives ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. I’m not sure if I am one but I grew up as a street urchin on Phoenix Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida in the 50’s and 60’s. I love the Lord, Willie Nelson, Simon and Garfunkel, Merle Haggard and Billy Graham. I also love to hear Johnny Mathis and Nat King Cole croon while the ladies seemingly melt and slide their way out of their seats and onto the floor much like water from a waterfall. I love rivers. I love their names and I love to find out about their origin as well as their destination. I grew up fishing with my Dad and brother on the mighty St. Johns River. I have since fished Dog River, the Hudson River, the Chattahoochee River, the Oconee River , the Apalachicola River and the Oostanaula just to name a few. I love a good book. I especially enjoy biographies. Recently I have read biographies of Vince Lombardi, Pistol Pete Maravich, Kirk Douglas and Harry Truman. I am currently reading about Mark Twain and when he shares his passion for Ol Man River flowing through Hannibal it stirs my soul to the core. I also consider myself a people person. I don’t care what you have I want to know who you are. Like the rivers mentioned above, I want to learn about your origin as well as your destination. One begins to wax philosophically when he sits with a loved one over a period of time in the hospital. As I reflect I’ve wondered what the greatest thing in life really is. Certainly my faith and my family are paramount in my own life but there is a particular thread that runs through all of our relationships and that thread of course, is love. Nat King Cole sings a story about a wise boy (Nature Boy) that he encountered. The boy shared with him that the “greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return”. Perhaps you are saying the Ol Captain needs to get out of that room because he has finally spilt his Ostomy Bag and that may be true. But once you listen to Nat this morning you may agree that the Nature Boy wasn’t too far off the mark. youtu.be/Iq0XJCJ1Srw
