Monster Mash Enjoyable day running a Halloween Autumn Seed Harvest workshop in Dungannon Park with keen would be tree growers. With a bountiful crop of nuts and berries this year people were keen to learn how to grow their own native trees from seed. Good practice tips and treatment methods were shared, the mysteries of pretreatment and stratification discussed and methods of caring for young trees demonstrated. Particular interest was expressed in growing Irish Whitebeam which is a priority species in the Dungannon/Cookstown Local Biodiversity Action Plan. Eventually, in a scene resembling a bloody Halloween massacre, everyone got their hands dirty by macerating smelly Guelder Rose and waxy Hawthorn berries to separate the seeds from the fleshy fruit.
