MONTI -LICIOUS 2/28/14 Opening of the week was The Jackson Brothers at Planet Hollywood. It was a star-studded event with Jermaine, Jackie, Tito, and Marlon singing, dancing, and telling Jackson family anecdotes. Adam Steck and his Spi Entertainment have brought us yet another hit. Unfortunately, I had to leave early as I was notified of the death of my good friend Carl Gervich in NYC. However, word is that small glitches during opening weekend added more spontaneity to this fast moving entertaining show. The Jackson Brothers still have IT. The Olympics closing was spectacular with the Russians outdoing themselves. This was the most costly Olympics to date with the United States and Canada doing their countries proud. The Tanya Harding documentary was too long and boring, but considering the uncooperative weather it was, all in all, a great spectacle. Looks like big changes are in store for Dancing With The Stars. Longtime co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet was let go suddenly. TV sportscaster and former DWTS contestant Erin Andrews has been signed as the new partner for Tom Bergeron. In another startling change, Harold Wheeler and his 28-piece orchestra was also eliminated, to be replaced by electronic music and a DJ. I guess that DWTS is one more show looking to increase the number of younger viewers. Another surprise was the cancellation of the Piers Morgan show on CNN. Piers, a British tabloid editor, has not endeared himself to American audiences with his nightly condescending rants on our American way of life and American politicians. If everything is better in Great Britain, why is he living and working here? Neither a final date nor a replacement has been decided as yet. Morgans canning came within days of the firing by MSNBC of Alec Baldwin. Morgan has been rather quiet about his situation. But Baldwin wrote a 5,200-word rant in New York magazine, charging something he calls the Gay Mafia for his cancellation. I think this falls under who gives a darn. Alec always finds a way to get his name out, I think that deep down he really craves the notoriety- but he is right about the paparazzi and his family. Hey guys----,stalk him, not his family. The Smith Center has some interesting shows in its new lineup. Las Vegas favorite Tony Sacca performs there on March 2 accompanied by a 10-piece orchestra and a production of Shakespeares The Tempest will be there from April 5-13. Included in this production is magic by Teller (of Penn and Teller) and music by Tom Wait. Teller worked with the great Johnny Thompson on many of these magical illusions. Johnny also worked on Play Dead., an off-Broadway production for which he was nominated for an award. The new and updated Jubilee is set to reopen later this month, There is new choreography, some new music, and new costumes fotr the male performers . Thise fabulous showgirl costumes are being retained. The Samson and Delilah and Titanic features will still be there---you dont fix whats not broken. The new director and new choreographer are keeping the Donn Arden touch alive, Tickets are now available. For some reason, Jodie Roccos comments were cut from the telecast of Oprahs Where Are They Now last week. Jodie was the one who blew the whistle on the Milli Vanilli fraud. She and her sister were the real singers on the bogus bands hit records. It seems that the group wanted out of the clutches of Frank Farian (real name Franz Reuther), a powerful presence in the music world, and it ended up in a scandal that rocked the music world. Victor Drai moves back to the Strip on Memorial Day Weekend. He will have three venues at the new Cromwell Hotel/Casino. This classy boutique hotel is the perfect place for the talented Mr. Drai, who is a master of creating an exciting ambiance. Victor has the Midas touch abroad and I think that today he is one of the masters of nightlife Vegas. My hats off to him. He DOES have a magical touch. We wish him continued success in this new venture. Splitsville keeps rolling along with Paula Patton reportedly wants to divorce Robin Thicke and hes supposedly trying desperately to save the marriage. And how about the on and off Katy Perry and John Mayer relationship. . These two cant seem to live with and/or without each other. This time its Katy who wants out. Lets hope that they all reconcile and go on with their lives. We are all praying for Kerry Simon. This fine gentleman and superior chef is suffering from a very rare MSA, a debilitating disease that is also very aggressive. His friends and fans are there to support him in any way they can and they ran a successful benefit show headed by his old friend Bill Murray. This week Ill be busy with my upcoming Florida trip. Costume fittings, rehearsals and getting a hair makeover by my fabulous hairdresser, Theresa Graves at Viva Salon. I wish all of my dear readers could fly to Miami to see my fabulous show.
