Moon Bird Ive long had the habit of going outside for a bit at night to look at the moon. The other night, when it was almost full moon, I went outside to find it high in the sky and partially covered by fast moving clouds. I stood for a few minutes watching as the clouds passed by in a very beautiful, free-form, peek-a-boo dance with the moon, now hidden, now there to see. As I watched, in a smooth flow, half the moon was hidden behind a dark splash of clouds, and for a minute or two half of the silver moon with a small scatter of gray clouds across her face shone brightly for me to see. Just then clouds that had passed by only a moment before took on the form of a bright white bird whose wings spanned the full width of the moon. My heart jumped a beat when, for just a minute or two nature made a perfect picture of a moon half obscured by gray wispy clouds with the shape of a huge white night bird, wings spread wide in high flight right beside the brightly lit half. As the scene passed, I smiled and I went back into the house happy and grateful to have been outside just in time to see such a wonderful gift in the night. Life every day, I think, is like that, offering up sights and feelings like ripe fruit in a primeval forest bountiful and free for those who take the time from their busy, busy day to stop and see.
