More Dealings with the Bible Agnostics - From WVW-TV Presents: How To Pick A Bible with Host Justin Peters worldviewweekend/article/wvw-tv-presents-how-pick-bible-host-justin-peters UnreconstructedRebel • 8 hours ago “I dont subscribe to the tenets of the KJV Only movement; its just plain dopey and ignorant to claim that any English translation is the unique, infallible Word of God. That is only to be found in the original manuscripts. However, the KJV stood the test of time for over 350 years before being recklessly jettisoned over the past 40 years and it is a beautiful, elegant, practical translation, probably the best ever done in the English language. Now we have a Tower of Babel of modern bible translations which sound like they were written by some guy who reads the announcements over the public address at Target or writes for the TV Guide. Scripture memorization and congregational bible readings have pretty much died out and we have severed a chain of heritage that stretched across four centuries of English Speaking peoples around the globe. All this is too high price to pay for the bland blizzard of modern translations poured out every few years. I also disagree with the whiney complaint that the vocabulary or wording of the KJV is too hard. Baloney. It was written for congregations that had only a few years of formal education and spent most of their day doing farm chores. Are you saying your not as smart as a 17th century English ploughman? Keep a modern translation at home for study or reference or to help you with understanding obscure passages, but all reading in public worship and bible study should be in the KJV.” willkinney UnreconstructedRebel • 11 minutes ago Hi UnreconstructedRebel. Brother, you actually have some very good points in your post and things I agree with. But I would like to address your opening statement, OK? You started off by saying: I dont subscribe to the tenets of the KJV Only movement; its just plain dopey and ignorant to claim that any English translation is the unique, infallible Word of God. That is only to be found in the original manuscripts. What you reveal here is the fact that you have NO perfect and inerrant Bible NOW. Once you take the position of ONLY the originals are/were infallible, you are now left with a Imaginary, Hypothetical, Non-Existent, Make Believe, Lets Pretend we have bible. You are confessing a faith in something that not only you have never seen, probably couldnt read if you had it, but a faith in something that YOU KNOW DOES NOT EXIST! Now how silly is that? Plus it implies that God either lied to us or was highly exaggerating when He promised to preserve His words (Psalm 12) and to give us the book of the LORD (Isaiah 34:16) and that heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Other than your meaningless faith in a non-existent bible, a lot of the things you said were quite good ;-) One of my shorter articles (with a good link in it) that you might want to consider is Where is the Bible Does It Teach King James Bible Onlyism? brandplucked.webs/bibleteachkjbonly.htm He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 8:8 God bless.
