More Photos from today’s Home Improvement Lesson at the Boston Police Teen Academy: Today, Wednesday, July 30, 2014, anyone who stopped by the Boston Police Academy located at 85 Williams Ave in Hyde Park would’ve seen a wooden structure surrounded by teenagers wearing protective goggles while wielding hammers, nails, rulers, levels, screws and screw guns. Thanks to the fine folks from Home Depot and their help, all involved in today’s project learned how to frame a wall, hang dry wall and lay a floor. And, while the lessons in home improvement were certainly in high supply, Detective Lanita Cullinane says a healthy portion of life lessons were on the menu as well. Said Cullinane, “Today was all about teamwork. We wanted the kids to learn that – regardless of the task – whether it’s making an arrest or building a shed – it takes a team to get the job done. No one can do it alone and good things happen when people work as one. And we’re grateful to the folks from Home Depot for coming out and helping us impart that lesson. ” Said Jim Robichau, assistant store manager of the Home Depot at the South Bay Mall in Dorchester, “We love being involved in stuff like this. For us, it’s all about giving back and making our community a better place. So, when the BPD approached us about teaching a course in home improvements, we were more than happy to get involved.” The Boston Police Teen Academy, which is in its 6th year, meets three days a week for six weeks during the summer at the Boston Police Academy.
