More background on one of the topics weve been covering this week; this info is from the official Facebook page related to the great conductor Herbert von Karajan: It has been 50 years since Karajan was appointed to the board of directors at the Salzburg Festival, a position he would occupy for nearly a quarter of a century. This year the Salzburger Festspiele | Salzburg Festival commemorates 25 years since the death of Karajan with memorial concerts 15 - 17 August. Riccardo Muti will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic in three memorial concerts performing Schuberts Fourth Symphony and Bruckners Sixth Symphony. Karajan always conducted concerts on this day at the Festival, and the choice of repertoire is fitting as Karajans last public appearance was a performance of a Bruckner Symphony (Seventh) with the Vienna Philharmonic, back in 1989. bit.ly/1nWlgz6.
