More from the Seaterra Biosolids Debacle of Oct 30, 2013: youtu.be/z02MO1X3rz8 When the public comes to speak at the CRD, were thanked for our comments but when the industry comes on its own initiative some CRD Directors suddenly have questions for them. Saanich CRD Director Judy Brownoff shamelessly does this time and time again with CRD staff leading them to provide selected answers but this time it was Denise Blackwell who was behind the push to reverse the ban with her motion that setup this meeting in the first place. Like Dr. Sally Brown, who was flown in by the Seaterra Commission to present at this meeting, why wasnt Sylvis invited to be part of a Seaterra presentation? They are experts and that would be inline with other CRD staff presentations. In this instance, youve got a company: 1) speaking with members of the public at a critical meeting. If you work for a company and biosolids is your business, ethically, you MUST declare this when you register and you NEED to declare this when you introduce yourself otherwise, CRD Directors (in this case, Ben Isitt) have a perfect right to inquire about your intentions and how you found out about the meeting. Alastair Bryson cautioned Isitt for his questioning and his pro-biosolids position during that meeting was very disturbing and very un-chairman like. 2) pitching a one-sided view of biosolids which is in their business interest. 3) appearing as a reference in the CRDs slides being presented by none other than Stantec!!! This is too close for comfort in my opinion especially when there exists a relationship between these companies and the CRD. That is why such presentations need to be separated from the public comments. I want to stress that the representative from Stantec was incredibly candid and professional and without his candour the CRD Directors less certain about the consequences of biosolids land application may well have lifted the ban with a majority vote. I have not seen this with many other presentations whose purpose was clearly to sell something to the Directors. This presenter from Stantec was following the requirements of his professional code and the motion went down in flames based on his honest answers to questioning from Mayor Ranns, Mayor Cross, Mayor Desjardins and Director Hicks, among others. See the comments for the obvious connections...
