More great work by Cairns Police as part of the collaborative effort to tackle youth crime. The next step is legislative reform of the Youth Justice Act 1992 with tougher penalties and sentences: Cairns Property Crime Squad detectives have charged three boys with a total of 37 burglary and traffic related offences following investigations as part of Operation Cairns Cast Iron. Personal items including laptops, phones and vehicles were allegedly stolen from residences in Manunda, Moorool and Mareeba this month. Three Cairns teenagers aged 14, 15 and 16 will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 1992 after being charged with several offences including burglary, unlawful use of motor vehicles, stealing, unlicensed driving, failing to stop a vehicle and obstructing police. Operation Cast Iron commenced on April 8 and is an ongoing operation targeting property crime and recidivist offenders in the Far North District.
