More information about our “Friends of Speedway” stand at the Australian National Show n Shine at Euroa last Sunday. From the perspective of GVAC, we had a great turn out. The GV Opens of Col Stanton and Robert White, the Shelby GT Mustang of ex-GVAC member Bryan Liersch, assistance from GV members Mark Cowin and Leanne Shanks, and our stand co-managed by future member Chris Mann. Prospective new member Glenn Godden took out second place in the Muscle Car section with his 1968 Camaro SS. Well done, and thanks to all. All of the owners of our display cars were somehow connected to Speedway. In addition to the above, Ron Townley from Melbourne had his 1948 Midget Speedcar, Matt Griffin his V8 Dirt Modified, Tony Hubbard (ex-Seymour Auto Club) brought his “Touring Car Masters” 68 Chev Camaro, and his friend Tony Pejkovic his “Masters” EH Holden. We had the ex-John Harvey VK Commodore (John used to race Speedway in the 60s) and Peter Byrne’s (ex Euroa Speedway Club) FJ Holden. A great mix of new and old cars! It was great to see the number of both old and new Speedway people who called in for a look and a chat. Amazing (and I don’t use that word easily, these days!) that the number of people from Euroa still identify with their old speedway, which ceased to exist in 1980. Great support from entire families, such as the Petries, Manns, and many others. We look forward to Chris’ book in the near future!
