More than 200,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in a few states of Malaysia, hit by the nation’s worst floods in decades. Extremely high levels of floodwater and bad weather had made it very much difficult for the authorities to transport out victims to the safer places and deliver the food supplies as well as medical aid. As of today, a total of five deaths were recorded in Kelantan, three in Pahang and two in Terengganu, according to data from the National Security Council published on its website. And, following the said unprecedented flood crisis, the MOE has extended the opening of the school year for 2015 to the second week of January. The flood in some areas has improved. Some places are drying up. In weeks to come, help will be needed to deal with the aftermath of the floods with cleaning and restoring of homes and lives in the affected areas. Our major concern for our sisters and their families in the affected areas. Their homes have been turned into aquariums which means not only being homeless for a few weeks but also lost most of their belongings, ie vehicles, furniture, children’s school uniforms, textbooks etc. The aftermath of the flood is totally heart-wrenching! Having said that, PUTERI has initiated Flood Relief Donations to help alleviate the suffering of our sisters as well as the needy ones in facing the aftermath of the floods. Apart from helping our very own sisters, PUTERI is also collaborating with Yayasan Kemanusiaan Muslim Aid Malaysia (YKMAM)s Back2school Program. YKMAM has been in contact with Kamdar for getting school uniforms stitched in time. There are three donation packages available, ie… (i) Package A ~ worth RM100 (1 school uniform + 1 pair of shoes and socks); (ii) Package B ~ worth RM50 (School bag + stationeries); (iii) Package C ~ worth RM150 (Combo Package ~ Package A + Package B). If you wish to donate to this cause, you may either deposit your cash / cheque donations directly into our bank account via the counter, ATM or cash / cheque deposit machines, or you may make an online fund transfer or telegraphic transfer directly into our bank account MBB 562085504705. For cheque donations, please issue your crossed cheque(s) in favour of PERSATUAN ALUMNI SEKOLAH SERI PUTERI MALAYSIA”. Kindly notify our Treasurer, Puan Afzan via sms or whatsapp at 013-3577154 or email to afzan.nadzrin@gmail. Your generosity and support will be very much appreciated.
