“Moreover, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would - TopicsExpress

“Moreover, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations …Moreover, I gave them statutes that were not good and rules by which they could not have life, and I defiled them” (Ezekiel 20:23-26 ESV). The statutes mentioned are not the laws of Moses, because they were good and life-giving. The statutes that were not good were the laws of Babylon God gave them by enslaving Judah to Babylon, and thus defiling them. Therefore we pay taxes to the tyrant and obey the laws that are not good because God put us under the leaders we deserve because of the broken covenant. “Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. For this is the will of God…” (1 Peter 2:13-15). The only time to disobey governors is when they command us to sin.
