Morgunpóstur fyrir tónlistaráhugamenn. Lá yfir NWOBHM plötum í síðustu viku og tók samviskusamlega niður punkta (á ensku, vegna náms). Viðgjöf við þessari langloku vel þegin. Njótið með morgunkaffinu... Angel Witch - Angel Witch (1980) ---Able melodists, some off the mark experiments, hard rock vocal and leanings (which can get a tad tiresome). Tygers of Pan Tang - Wild Cat (1980) ---Sounds so weak, and thats so cute! Its OK, but a bit colourless. Samey and simple, a blessing and a curse. Tygers of Pan Tang - Spellbound (1981) ---Much tighter. But generic as well. Im not taking to the Tigers! Tygers of Pan Tang - Crazy Nights (1981) ---A short listen, as I heard that the album was excruciatingly bad. And it is... Savage - LoosenLethal (1983) ---Judas Priest like. Raw and highly generic. The singer is terrible. Not my cup of metal tea really but certain charms in how it slouches on like a deranged beast. Its a grower... Praying Mantis - Time tells no lies (1981) ---Too much 70s cock rock for my tastes. Too much Reo Speedwagon. Weak and hollow, off key singing and all over the place somehow. Nice guitar sometimes though and I do dig the clangy, new wave guitar sound as featured in Iron Maidens Gangland for example. Samson - Survivors (1979) ---Charming, raw and pretty weird. Samson is trying out various things and all of it is peculiarly engaging. The non-focus is a strength! Samson - Head on (1980) ---Bruce Dickinson on vocals, still finding his chords. Weird music still, hard rock, tad bluesy, with surprising detours into experimental stuff and new wave. Not great but highly likable in a ... yes ... weird way. Samson - Shock Tactics (1981) ---A bit of a downer. More regulated then previous efforts and therefore more bland. No wonder Bruce left for pastures more promising. Samson - Live Reading Festival 1981 (1990) ---A great rocking set and Bruce in brilliant form! Satan - Court in the act (1983) ---Brian Ross (formerly of Blitzkrieg) is the singer. Excellent stuff, proto-thrash and black metal at times, good songs, fine guitar and all around beauty to behold. The singing is very special, very normal and weak you could say, and that adds to magic if anything. VA - New Wave of British Heavy Metal 79 Revisited (1990) ---Excellent overview and very rocking (unsurprising, in light of who oversaw this). Whats so special about many of the tracks are the reserved, almost gentlemanly vocals. One of the many twists that make this wonderful genre so endearing. Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations (1980) ---A magnificent album and worthy of all the praise thats been lavished on it. Genius songwriting - and never any indulgence - brilliant riffs and spotless flow. The voice is very NWOBHM. Like a shy clerk getting his fix on a Saturday night. Highly recommended! Raven - Rock Until You Drop (1981) ---Punky and raw. Nice, dirty vocals as well. Crazy, over the top, shit. Funny, entertaining and rocking. I like the classic heavy rock touch a la AC/DC. Venom - Welcome to Hell (1981) ---Brilliantly chaotic, dirty, bad, muffled etc. A masterpiece then and absolutely the proto-black/extreme metal album that lore has it.
